Experience the darkness at the southern tip of Langeland

A dramatic landscape of silence and shadows

Dovns Klint marks the end of South Langeland. Here you will find the open sea, steep coastal cliffs and a wide horizon.

When darkness falls, the cliff transforms into an almost cinematic landscape, where you have only the sound of the sea and the starry sky for company. The short 2.2 km route makes it easy to enjoy the darkness – without it becoming demanding.

An undisturbed night sky over the sea and cliffs

Far to the south and outside the city lights, Dovns Klint offers you an unusually clear and dark night-time experience. On clear evenings, the constellations are sharp, and with a little luck, you can glimpse the Milky Way. The route is part of the Dark Skies initiative on Langeland, where the darkness of night is seen as a quality in itself. Here, it's not about seeing as much as possible – but about feeling how the darkness makes everything else clearer.

Walk between the sea and horses

The landscape is open, and you may be lucky enough to catch a glimpse of the wild Exmoor ponies grazing in the area. Remember to keep your distance. The area is also home to Keldsnor Lighthouse, Gulstav Klint and Gulstav Mose – but the latter is a bird sanctuary, so follow the white route and keep your distance so that the birds can get their night's sleep.

Practical information

The white route on the Danish Nature Agency's land is suitable for walking, but not suitable for people with walking difficulties or wheelchair users, especially during wet periods. Bring a headlamp if necessary, but allow yourself time to enjoy the darkness along the way. Remember to bring warm clothing – the wind can be brisk all year round.

The project ‘Inspiration for stargazing walks on Langeland’ has been developed by VisitLangeland and Dark Sky Langeland and is supported by Friluftsrådet and Østifterne.
