Dark Sky at Ristinge – hiking under the stars and above the sea

Cliffs, coastline and clear skies

Ristinge Klint is one of the most striking places on Langeland – both in daylight and after sunset. When darkness falls, the contours of the landscape emerge in silhouette and the night sky opens up above you. Out here, where you can hear the waves of the sea and feel the wind, stargazing is not just a possibility – it is almost inevitable. On clear nights, you can see constellations, planets and the Milky Way. The open horizon also offers views of Marstal on Ærø and all the way south to Bagenkop.

Choose your route – long or short

You can take the entire 7.3 km red route, which takes you all the way along the footpath on the cliff, around Ristinge Hale and through the town to Ristinge Harbour. Or you can settle for the short trip – 2.6 km – out to the tip of the tail and back again. Both offer great nature experiences and beautiful views of the archipelago.

A world-class geological landscape

Ristinge Klint has been designated an international geosite in the UNESCO Global Geopark South Funen Archipelago. The cliff is 2 km long and up to 28 metres high and shows traces of several ice ages. This makes the area not only beautiful, but also exciting for those who want to understand the history of the landscape.

Practical information

The paths are suitable for normal footwear, but not suitable for wheelchairs. Bring a headlamp if you wish, but remember to turn it off along the way to really experience the darkness. The wind can be brisk, especially at the top of the cliff, so bring a warm jacket.
