Visit Rudkøbing
Rudkøbing, which is Langeland’s biggest city, is a cosy old market town with old, wellkept merchant houses, small town houses and winding roads with cobble stones, and at the same time, it is the place to make a good deal and get good, oldfashioned service.
Rudkøbing has several small eating places, and combined with the city’s museum, galleries and arts and craft shops, they invite you to stop by.
The harbour is also one of the places well worth visiting, northernmost is the yacht marina and southernmost the ferry harbour.
In the area by the marina, a multi lane has been made with parkour, ball pitches, table tennis and different types of places for recreation. Next to the multi lane and in the Ørsteds Park there are playgrounds for the smaller children.
H.C.Ørsted (1777-1851) is one of the most famous citizen of Rudkøbing. He was the son of the pharmacist and grew up at Gåsetorvet. At Gåsetorvet you will find a statue of H.C. Ørsted by H.V. Bissen.
The city’s first merchant privilege was issued in 1287, and as you walk around town, you will be pleased to see, that the city centre has avoided an industrial development and therefore today still has the old merchant environment with many wellkept old buildings.
